Our lighter weight leashes are braided using (4) strands of cord; the heftier leashes are braided using (8) strands of cord. Choose a small, medium, or large (standard) swivel snap clip for your leash, or request an O-ring on the end of your leash to make a slip-lead. Leashes can be made in different lengths.
First, decide how 'hefty' you want your leash to be. The (4) strand leashes are thinnest, at 1/4, and 5/16 inches "thick" (diameter). To make one of these, you can choose up to two colors. The (8) strand leashes are heftier, at 7/16, and 1/2 inches "thick" (diameter). To make an 8-strand leash, you can choose up to four colors.
Next, decide how long you want your leash to be. Leashes are typically braided in 3, 4, 5, or 6 foot lengths. If you need something different, just ask!
Next, decide what size/type of hardware you need on the end of your leash. Swivel snap clips come in small (2"), medium (2.375"), and large/standard (3") size. If you want your leash to be a slip-lead, you'll want an O-ring at the end of your leash. Please be realistic - if your dog is medium or large sized and a "puller," a small swivel snap clip is NOT the right choice for your leash!
Next, decide what color(s) you'd like your leash to be. If you've selected a 4-strand leash, you can choose up to two colors. If you've selected an 8-strand leash, you can choose up to 4 colors. If you're wanting your leash to match an existing collar or harness, etc., let me know that. We'll work together to find the right color selections for you! Go to Request Form >>
This is an example of our lightest leash braid. It is 1/4" in diameter. You can request this type of leash in a solid color, or in a two-tone braid as shown here. We can put any size swivel snap clip (S/M/L) on this leash, or an O-ring if you prefer a slip lead.
This is an example of our heavier 4-strand leash braid. It is 5/16" in diameter. You can request this type of leash in a solid color, or in a two-tone braid as shown here. We can put any size swivel snap clip (S/M/L) on this leash, or an O-ring if you prefer a slip lead.
: This is an example of our lighter 8-strand leash braid. It is 7/16" in diameter. You can request this type of leash in one, two, three, or four colors (shown here in four colors). We can put any size swivel snap clip (S/M/L) on this leash, or an O-ring if you prefer a slip lead.
This is an example of our heaviest leash braid. It is 1/2" in diameter. You can request this type of leash in one, two, three, or four colors (shown here in four colors). This leash requires a Large swivel snap clip, or an O-ring if you prefer a slip lead.
There are different "looks" available if your leash will be an 8-strand multi-color leash. The leash pictured on top in this image is our "Confetti" style braid. This leash was made with 4 colors, and the colors are all intertwined. The leash pictured below in this image is made with the exact same cords, but the strands of each color lay together to create a patched look. We call this our "Patch" style braid. Prefer one look over the other? You can request Confetti or Patch style braiding on your 8-strand leash.

Our Switchback style braid produces our more narrow, flat braid collar, while our Jawbone Trilobyte style braid produces a wider flat braid collar. Any of our collars can be braided with a side-squeeze buckle, or as a martingale (limited slip) collar. If you'd like a fully braided buckle collar, it will be braided all the way around, so it must be braided to the correct size as it will not be adjustable. If you prefer to have some room to adjust your collar size, we can braid your collar with a portion of nylon webbing as shown in the Adjustable Buckle Collars picture below. Either way, it is important that you measure carefully to ensure a proper fit. We'll guide you through the measuring process for best results.
First, decide which of our collar widths you'd like. Our Switchback collars measure 1/2" wide if braided with our smaller 425 cord (3 mm or 1/8" thick cord), or 3/4" wide if braided with our heftier 550 cord (4 mm or 5/32" thick cord). Our Jawbone Trilobyte collars measure 1" wide if braided with the smaller 425 cord, or 1.5" wide if braided with the larger 550 cord.
Next, decide if you want your collar to be a buckle collar (fully braided, or adjustable?) or a martingale (limited slip) collar. If your collar needs to be a buckle collar, we'll braid it with an appropriately sized side-squeeze buckle and a D-ring to attach your leash to. If your collar needs to be a martingale (limited slip) collar, we'll braid it with an appropriately sized yoke loop to allow the collar to slip over your dog's head but still fit properly on the neck, with an O-ring to clip your leash to. If you want your martingale collar permanently connected to your leash, check out our Martingales.
Next, decide what color(s) you'd like your collar to be. Switchback or Jawbone Trilobyte style collars can be braided either in a solid color or using two different colors. Go to Request Form >>
This is an example of our Switchback style collar braid with a side-squeeze buckle and D-ring. It was braided using a solid black cord and a blended rainbow colored cord (which is why you see more than just 2 colors here). If braided in the smaller cord, the width of this collar is 1/2". If braided in the heavier cord (shown here), the width of this collar is 3/4".
This is an example of our Switchback style collar braid in a martingale (limited slip) collar. It was braided using one multi-colored cord (which is why you see more than just one color here). If braided in the smaller cord, the width of this collar is 1/2". If braided in the heavier cord (shown here), the width of this collar is 3/4".
This is an example of our Jawbone Trilobyte style collar braid with a side-squeeze buckle and D-ring. This collar was braided in two colors - khaki as the "base" color and blue as the "accent" color. If braided in the smaller cord (shown here), the width of this collar is 1". If braided in the heavier cord, the width of this collar is 1.5".
This is an example of our Jawbone Trilobyte style collar braid in a martingale, or limited slip collar. It was braided in two colors - black as the "base" color and blue as the "accent" color. If braided in the smaller cord, the width of this collar is 1". If braided in the heavier cord (shown here), the width of this collar is 1.5".
These are examples of our Adjustable Buckle Collars. To be adjustable, they will have a portion that is not braided, but black nylon webbing instead. Our goal is to have as much of your collar as possible be braided while still providing the amount of adjustment requested. The collars pictured here still need final trims.
Any leash and martingale (limited slip) collar we offer can be braided together in a Martingale ensemble like the examples pictured below. We'll guide you through the measuring process to make sure your martingale will slide comfortably over your dog's head but still fit the neck properly.
This is an example of a martingale braided with a Switchback style collar and a 4-strand leash. It was braided using our heavier 550 cord in two colors - dark green, and peacock (a textured blue/green cord).
This is an example of a martingale braided with a Jawbone Trilobyte style collar and an 8-strand leash. It was braided using our lighter 425 cord in two colors - neon green, and black. The braid style for this 8-strand leash is our "Patch" braid.
Pull-Tabs are short, straight (no loop handle) leashes that clip to and dangle from the dog's collar. It provides an easy way to quickly take hold of the off leash dog as long as the dog is within arm's reach of the handler. While many people use a tab to help transition their dog to off leash work, people also like to use these tabs as zipper-pulls on soft sided crates, winter jackets, and more. We use our 4-strand leash braid for our tabs. Our tabs can be braided in either size cord, in one or two colors. Tabs are typically requested in the 5" - 10" long range. If you need something different, just ask!
Choose your preferred Pull-Tab diameter (thinner cord, or heavier cord). See image below for braid diameters.
Choose your swivel snap clip size (please be realistic - a substantial correction issued to a medium or large sized dog wearing a tab made with the small swivel snap clip - See Clip Sizes Below - will likely result in a broken clip).
Decide how long you need your tab to be.
Choose your colors.
These are examples of pull-tabs braided in solid colors, with a small, medium, and large swivel snap clip. These were braided using the heavier 550 cord.

Like everything we make, our whistle lanyards can be custom crafted to your specifications. Our whistle lanyards typically have one or two ports for you to add/change out your whistles and are braided in the 4-strand braid using our thinner cord. Lanyards can be braided in a solid color, or 2 colors. Our standard size is 18". If you need something different, just ask!
